You need to cripple the enemy fast, use golems and racial infantry to blunt the enemy counter-attack, withdraw while you're reloading, and then finish the enemy off. Without lots of engineers you won't be able to fire every round, with engineers you'll have fewer guns, and the engineers themselves are very vulnerable. The weakness, of course, is the downtime. And even humans can, at best, lessen the impact of a dreadnought broadside salvo, not eliminate it entirely. Of course, humans won't be so obliging most of the time, but it's easy to trick the AI into giving you these opportunities. If you arrange circumstances to your advantage: if the enemy is at the right range, clustered together, and maybe you have spells that lower key resistances, then you can devastate entire formations in a single round of combat. In general, the Dreadnought's strength lies in burst damage. Others can give more in depth information. But don't underestimate engineers and musketeers. Golems are hardy not as hardy as they used to be. Setting units up in a line so canons hit multiple units is beneficial. Fire protection on units near a flame tank can be useful, so dwarf forge priests and firstborn can sit right in friendly fire from flame tanks as well as Draconians. So against druids its tough for their hunter unit to do much damage.Įngineers also help speed up powerful units that have cooldown.Īs far as general strategies they like to smash things up from a distance. Many of their machine based units are protected against ranged fire such as archers. So they can be good against sorcerors just be wary of shock. They are weak to lightning/shock damage but they have other defenses against magical units and players, such as spell jammer. Their units are powerful and expensive but can be worn down.Ī key thing to do is build workshops in cities to repair units, and keep engineers around.

But they are great on the siege and also defending behind walls with their ranged power and flame tanks.

I'm not the best to answer since I don't typically play them and finally played a game after not playing for a while.
